Your inbox shouldn’t slow you down. If you’ve been stuck with an embarrassing Gmail address, drowning in newsletters, or juggling a dozen browser tabs just to track your packages, this one’s for you. Gmail has quietly rolled out three features that solve all of it. Here’s what they are and how to use them.
Change Your Gmail Address
This is the one people have been waiting years for. If your current Gmail address is unprofessional or just plain outdated, you can finally change it.
Here’s how. Go to myaccount.google.com and click “Personal Info” in the left sidebar. Then click “Email.” If your account is eligible, you’ll see a small edit icon next to your address.
Before you make the change, understand how the alias system works. Your old address doesn’t disappear. Google keeps it active as an alias, so any mail sent to your old address still lands in your inbox. Going forward, emails you send will come from your new address.
Two important warnings. First, you can only do this once every 12 months. Second, once you set the new address, you can’t delete it. Choose carefully.
Note: Not everyone has this feature yet. Google is rolling it out in stages. If you don’t see the edit option, check back in a few weeks.
Manage Your Subscriptions in One Place
We all have them. Newsletters we signed up for years ago that clog our inbox and never get opened. Instead of opening each one and hunting for the fine-print unsubscribe link, Gmail now lets you manage everything from one dashboard.
In your Gmail inbox, look at the left sidebar. Click “More,” then select “Manage Subscriptions.” You’ll see a full list of active senders, how often they email you, and an Unsubscribe button right there on the screen. No digging required.
If a sender doesn’t offer a direct unsubscribe option, Gmail will walk you through how to block them or visit their site to opt out. Either way, you’re cleaning up your inbox in seconds.
By the way, if you’re looking for a way to keep up with the renewable subscriptions you’re paying for, this post is for you.
Track Your Packages Without Leaving Gmail
During busy shipping seasons, keeping up with deliveries can mean ten or twenty open browser tabs. Gmail’s Purchases view puts all of it in one place.
Start by making sure Smart Features are turned on. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of Gmail, go to Settings, and confirm Smart Features is enabled. On your computer, look at the left sidebar and click Purchases. You’ll see two categories: Arriving Soon and Purchases. Estimated delivery dates and status updates show up right there, no extra apps needed.
On mobile, open the app and go to your main menu. Tap “Settings,” then “Data Privacy,” and toggle “Package Tracking” on.
Put These to Work Today
Gmail is becoming a real productivity tool, not just a place to receive mail. These three features help you control your address, control your inbox, and control your deliveries without leaving Gmail.
Try one today and see how much time you get back. If you found this helpful, share it with someone who could use a cleaner inbox. And if you have questions, drop them in the comments below.
